TALES ON THE TABLE, by word of mouth

A series of stories about the food is presented in the book Tales on the table, anthologized by Sara Poot Herrera and brings together texts by Julio Cortazar, Gonzalo Celorio, Sergio Pitol and Juan García Ponce, among others

literature and food have always favored a seductive blend. The food, as well as a vital necessity, is a pleasure encourages our senses, so that through a good meal, a drink, of a delicious dessert and a digestif mercy, can a bon vivant, in the best sense of the term, experience feelings that will surely leave a lasting sensory impression.

For that reason, the topic of food is particularly attractive in the narrative. Cervantes and we described some tempting dishes like a pot of rather more beef than mutton, the scraps, partridges well seasoned. Moreover, the miracles that expands the master of Santiago, as indicated by Conde Lucanor, the first modern tale of English literature, there are precisely around a dinner invitation.

This comes to mind - literally - because the UNAM as a food co-sponsored literary tales on the table, , edited by the essayist, storyteller, of course gourmet and a professor at the University of California, Sara Poot Herrera.

The book brings together fifty stories whose main or environmental grounds, the table. It includes stories from classical and English language as Dinner Don Alfonso Reyes, to short diversions as Gonzalo Mercado Celorio. This volume brings together authors from many different backgrounds, streams or latitudes, but they do have one thing in common: all gathered here have demonstrated their high literary quality. Find texts of Julio Cortázar, Rosario Castellanos, Luisa Valenzuela, Sergio Pitol, Rosario Ferré, Juan Garcia Ponce, among many other leading storytellers.

This literary letter is very appealing and worthy of a great literary feast. Augusto Monterroso, undisputed master of the short text explains how he carnivorous plants became vegetarian, Juan Antonio Ramos realizes the intricacies of who finds a fly in your plate, Margo Glantz tells us family recipes kosher kitchen, which mouthwatering, Juan Jose Arreola, with a hint of nostalgia, evoking the lost paradise of the goodies that prepared them critically sisters.

narrative styles are naturally diverse, verbal eloquence Maria Luisa Mendoza contrasts with the sobriety of Sergio Ramírez. The thematic motifs are clearly disparate and range from the sad story of the unfortunate adventurer yankee ending crying for a glass of milk Manuel Rojas, to the unusual story of the cow of the ridge by crying Marina Dosal, the aguafrequera by Francisco Hinojosa.

Any anthology is necessarily a very personal selection of reference on the subject. In this case it is important to note the good taste, I would almost say the pleasure of the editor to put together a series of stories that the reader, in most cases, will leave a good impression. In any case, the menu is extensive and can choose what you want.
